Marsh Duties: passenger Wheels: 4-4-0 Highlights: Hinged tender fall-plate Adjustable tender draw-bar length Opening fire-box door Accessory pack includes route indicator discs Representation of the inside valve gear Etched name-plates History: In 1911 Lawson Billinton was granted authority to construct a further six 4-4-2 'Atlantic' locomotives similar to the Marsh H1 class but incorporating the Schmidt superheater. The new H2 class locomotives were built by Brighton railway works and introduced between June 1911 and January 1912. They were an immediate success and shared with the H1 class the London to Brighton express trains including the heavily loaded Pullman named trains the Brighton Limited, and the Southern Belle, which the LB&SCR described as the most luxurious train in the World. As with the non-superheated H1 class they were gradually replaced on the London-Brighton express trains in 1925-26 by the King Arthur and River classes, but there was still plenty of work for them on other express services, including boat trains connecting with the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry service. At the same time the class members were named after geographical features of the south coast. Following the cessation of the cross-channel ferries from 1940 as a result of hostilities, the class was left with reduced work and several locomotives were put into store or moved to miscellaneous duties in southern England. The H2 class however returned to the boat trains after the end of the war and continued until the mid-1950s. One member of the class was withdrawn in 1949, but the remainder continued in regular use until 1956. No. 32424 Beachy Head was the last survivor, being withdrawn in April 1958. None were preserved, but the Bluebell Railway is reconstructing a Brighton H2 Atlantic based on SR/BR period Beachy Head. . Description: Academy 1/48 Scale USN F4U-4 Corsair Battle of Jangjin Reservoir Kit AIRCRAFT HISTORY: American piston-engine carrier-based fighter-bomber with characteristic bent wing design. Built in large numbers for the US Navy and Marines, seeing service in WWII and, the subject of this Academy kit, the Korean War. Markings provided in the kit recall two US Navy Corsairs which crash-landed behind enemy lines. The Jangjin Reservoir is in a mountainous region in North Korea where many Americans were lost in battle. White 211, flown by Ensign Jesse L Brown, the Navy's first black pilot (and the first African American pilot killed in the war), came down after being hit by hostile fire. Lt (junior grade) Thomas Hudner Jr crash-landed his Corsair White 205 nearby to rescue Ens Brown but he died at the scene. Hudner made it out and was awarded the Medal of Honor in April 1951. Sixty years after the end of the Korean War, aged 88, Hudner returned to North Korea in July 2013 in a second attempt to recover Ens Brown's remains. Sadly the mission had to be abandoned due to harsh weather conditions. Hudner died in 2017 aged 93. Jesse Brown posthumously received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Their story is portrayed in the 2022 biopic Devotion. Description: Tamiya 1/35 US M151A2 Missile Launcher Modern The familiar Jeep was born during WW2 and it is said that it contributed greatly to the allied victory during that time. Following the conflict, this vehicle was widely used by most countries of the world as a small transport for the ground forces and later employed large calibre weapons systems for ground combat support. The U.S. Army first utilized this small vehicle in ground support firepower, by mounting the newly designed 105mm recoilless rifle in the rear of the Jeep. This weapon was developed to combat heavily armoured tanks and other tracked vehicles; however it was later adapted to anti-personnel operations with the development of anti-personnel shell charges. When the newer 106mm recoilless rifle came into being, it replaced the 105. This weapons system was mounted in the rear part of the Jeep, but could be also dismounted on a tri-pod for fixed use. As the old jeep became replaced with the newer M151 Ford MUTT, the 106 was also adapted to it. When the M151A2 was released during the late 70's, the model with the 106 rifle mounted was called M825. It had a beefed up rear suspension system to accept the rifles added weight of 325kg. Shortly the TOW missile system replaced the 106 recoiless rifles, as the main anti-tank mobile weapons system. Development of the TOW system began in the 1960's as a replacement for the large and heavy recoilless rifles. It was combat tested during the Vietnam conflict and proved its power and accuracy. It was further improved and finally replaced most of the 106's still in service. Officially it is called the BGM-71A; however, it is most widely called the TOW missile system which stands for Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided, missile system. When the missile is fired at a target, the shooter maintains the target in the cross hairs of the sight. The infrared rays of the missile exhaust are sensed by the optical sight and the computer compensated for the speed of the target and missile, guiding it via the wire trailing back to the vehicle. A far greater percentage of hits are recorded with this system, and it is easier to operate. Maximum range for shooting is 3750m which is much greater than the 1097m effective range of the 106. Description: Tamiya 1/35 US M151A2 Missile Launcher Modern The familiar Jeep was born during WW2 and it is said that it contributed greatly to the allied victory during that time. Following the conflict, this vehicle was widely used by most countries of the world as a small transport for the ground forces and later employed large calibre weapons systems for ground combat support. The U.S. Army first utilized this small vehicle in ground support firepower, by mounting the newly designed 105mm recoilless rifle in the rear of the Jeep. This weapon was developed to combat heavily armoured tanks and other tracked vehicles; however it was later adapted to anti-personnel operations with the development of anti-personnel shell charges. When the newer 106mm recoilless rifle came into being, it replaced the 105. This weapons system was mounted in the rear part of the Jeep, but could be also dismounted on a tri-pod for fixed use. As the old jeep became replaced with the newer M151 Ford MUTT, the 106 was also adapted to it. When the M151A2 was released during the late 70's, the model with the 106 rifle mounted was called M825. Description: Ready to assemble Precision Model Kit Part of the 1/700 Water Line Series The Nelson was laid down in December 1922 at the Newcastle yard of Vickers-Armstrong. She was launched on September 3rd 1925 and completed in June 1927. Her armament consisted of nine 16-inch guns in triple turrets all sited forward of her bridge, twelve 6-inch guns in twin turrets, six 4-7 inch A.A. guns and eight 2 pounder pom-poms. Also two submerged torpedo tubes housed one on each beam forward below the lower deck line. It is insteresting to note these torpedos were of the 24.5 inch type common in the Japanese Navy, but unique to Nelson and Rodney within the Royal Navy as were their 16-inch guns.
