Description: Alphonse Mucha is hardly a household name for so many but his wonderful illustrious and decadent style will be familiar to almost all! Mucha (pronounced Moo-ka) (1860-1939) was a Czech artist who studied in Paris, working on producing magazine and advertising illustrations. In 1894 he was working as cover in a print shop over Christmas when someone came in who was looking for an artist to produce a poster of Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris at that time. As all of the regular artists were away for Christmas, Mucha volunteered to produce a proof to see if they liked it. Within 2 weeks he produced a stunning poster for her current play, Gismonda. She were thrilled with his work - and so successful was it that Bernhardt entered into a six year contract with Mucha to produce advertising posters for her plays. A flurry of work followed for Mucha - paintings, posters, advertisements and book illustrations and thanks to that, we have a beautiful set here, full of wonderful pictures that are perfect for card-making! Description: This set of 30 card-making sheets is based around 10 beautiful Japanese images by illustrator Warwick Goble (1862-1943). Warwick Goble was an illustrator of children's books who specialised in fairies, Japanese and Indian themes. His style can be compared to that of Arthur Rackham, although his pictures are perhaps not as macabre and dark as his perhaps better-known counterpart. Warwick Goble was born in Dalston, North London and was the son of a commercial traveller. After completing his studies at the Westminster School of Art, he worked for a printer specialising in chromolithography and contributed to the Pall Mall Gazette and the Westminster Gazette. He went on to illustrate many books including Charles Kingsley's Water Babies, Treasure Island and War of the Worlds. Description: If you like vintage advertising, movies and dancing, you'll just love this set! We've been asked several times if we could do something on dancing but at the time I had no pictures and no ideas. The requests led me to do a search to see what I could find - and I ended up immersed in the world of glorious 1930s films and film magazines. I love the cinema so this wasn't a hardship at all! All of the pictures (except one!) in this set have come from such magazines so there's a real feeling of Hollywood and glamour about it - fabulous! The set itself is aptly named after one of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers' films, Shall We Dance from 1937. There is a wonderful picture of Fred and Ginger included in the set - with the motif sheet there are top hats and canes to cut out to accompany these great illustrations. Another highlight of the set is The Lost Waltz range - the Lost Waltz apparently being a 1936 film with a great movie advertisement but which doesn't seem to exist (at the time of writing) in the world of IMDB (Internet Movie Database). For this image we've included the original movie ad on the A4 print and on the postcard-size motif, but we've removed the wording for the other motifs and pyramage so that just the dancing couple is shown, fab if you're not keen on the wording. Other highlights include the Movietone Follies of 1930 (which shows that racy outfits were alive and well in 1930!) and also The Dancing Couple image. This one reminds me of that act that's often seen at Scout Gang-shows - where it's completely dark and you just see the luminous white hands moving!
