Review: Arrived on time. Well packaged. The wooden box is beautiful and the colouring pencils are a joy to use. I believe they are well worth the money and I certainly would recommend anyone who is looking for good quality colouring pencils for intricate work that do not smudge, then look no further than these colouring pencils because there are many cheaper BUT as always you get what you pay for But there are none better to my mind. If in double go on spoil your self........

Review: The colour strip, although narrower than usual, is softer than I expected and doesn't produce quite the fine detail I was expecting overall. It is a mixed outcome though as some colours do produce a sharp fine line, while others produce a line that is as soft and thick as my Coloursoft range. Because they are softer than expected they can provide some coverage along with finer detail but I had to keep sharpening them to get the fine lines to create the detail I was expecting. What I do like about them is the range; despite there being 72 pencils in each collection, this Studio package is far better than the Coloursoft package when it comes to the range of each main rainbow colour. I like the descriptive names too, they are more imaginative than the Coloursoft package. Most of the pencils have a good strong colour when laid down, some of the pastel shades are weak, though. The hexagonal barrel is not as comfortable as the round barrels to work with for long periods, as I have a habit of gripping the pencils more than I should. The benefit of these over my Coloursoft pencils are these don't roll away from me if I lay them on the desk instead of returning to them to the box straight away. The box, what a disappointment for a high price ticket. I was so excited about getting a set of pencils in the presentation box and knew they have magnetic bars to hold the pencils in place, so was not expecting the pencils to spill everywhere when opening the box for the first time. The bars have magnets on both ends and both work correctly, so the only assumption I can make is the bar was not fitted in place correctly when they were packed. Thankfully they are numbered, so it was not as soul-destroying as I first thought. The pencils sit very loosely in the grooves, I expected a more snug fit than they are. I tried a couple of my Coloursoft pencils in there and they fitted like a glove. (The Coloursoft have a thicker round barrel.) I have ended up swapping out the pencils and now keep my Coloursoft in the wooden box as they are not numbered and the tin lid comes loose frequently when handling, causing them to be spilled everywhere. The Studio package fit in the tin and are numbered so much easier to pack them in again being numbered. Derwent pencils are definitely let down by their containers, wether it is a tin or a presentation box, they can end up spilling everywhere. These Studio pencils are easier to pack away though, being numbered. Derwent - please sort out the quality of your presentation box packing! Overall, I feel these can be described as 'okay' hence the three stars. There are aspects of them that I like and I will get use from most of them for some detailed work, they just don't have the wow-factor expected from Derwent pencils.
