Description: Cobi 1/300 Scale Battleship Bismarck - Executive Edition Model Kit The Bismarck was a German World War II battleship commissioned on August 24, 1940. It was the largest Kriegsmarine ship next to its twin Tirpitz. On September 28, 1940, Bismarck made her maiden voyage. She was sunk on May 27, 1941, during a naval battle. The special EXECUTIVE EDITION of the famous battleship Bismarck has been expanded with a figure of a German captain in a distinctive uniform. In addition, part of the deck can be removed to see the detailed design of the engines. The set also includes two black plates containing the name of the ship, scale and basic technical data. The plates can be attached to the display block stand. The all-new Bismarck model created by COBI was produced in a scale of 1:300. It consists of 2933 elements and is 86.5 cm long. The latest edition of Bismarck is a ship designed completely from scratch. It contains over 900 more bricks compared to older editions. It faithfully reflects the proportions of the historical ship and preserves all its essential elements, including the original camouflage. The design depicts the so-called Baltic paint scheme, i.e., camouflage containing black and white stripes and red tops of artillery towers. Such colours were used during training in the Baltic Sea.     Description: Revell Battleship Bismarck Boat Kit The Bismarck, at 42,343 tons was, for her time, the largest and most up-to-date battleship in the world (next to the Hood). On 24th May 1941, in a sea battle, together with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, at the pack ice frontier of Greenland, with a direct hit by the 5th salvo from her 380 mm guns she sank the largest British battle cruiser the Hood. Launched on 14th February 1940 at the Blohm & Voss shipyard, Hamburg, together with the similar Tirpitz she was the most up-to-date and prestigious ship of the German navy. With a length of 251 m the top of the mast stood 52 m above the surface of the sea. She was protected by a total of 17,450 tonnes of steel armour plating. The newly designed heavy artillery fired 800 kg projectiles up to a range of 34.2 km and were capable of penetrating 350 mm armour at 21 km. Although the Prinz Eugen suffered no direct hits in the battle of 24th May, the Bismarck, which was damaged in the bow, made for a French harbour. In the subsequent pursuit by British ships and aircraft, on 27th May 1941 a torpedo hit the rudder and after being hit by the superior numbers of the Home Fleet she was disabled and sunk in the Atlantic about 800 km off the French coast. Of the 2,092 men on board, 115 survived.     Description: HMS Victorious joined the Home Fleet on commissioning in May 1941 and just nine days later her pilots encountered and attacked the German battleship Bismarck. On 26 May 1941, the new carrier HMS Victorious whose aircrews, despite their inexperience, succeeded in putting a torpedo into the battleship's midship section, which opened up a fuel tank on the Bismarck. After the sinking of the Bismarck, HMS Victorious continued to operate with the Home Fleet, Victorious's Fairey Albacore aircraft were subsequently involved in an attack on the German battleship Tirpitz in March 1942. She provided cover for Russian convoys PQ-15 and PQ-17 in May and June 1942 respectively. She then participated in Operation Pedestal and then went on to take part in the North African landings at the end of 1942. HMS Victorious sailed to Pearl Harbor to join USS Saratoga's Battle Group, Task Force 14. She arrived and took up duties under Task Force 14 in the the Southwest Pacific on 17th May 1943. She embarked US aircraft and aircrew, and with the Saratoga swept the Solomon Islands. During that year this busy ship supported the US Pacific fleet on many operations usually carrying both British and US Wildcat fighters. HMS Victorious covered Russian convoys from January-March 1944, then took part in Operation Tungsten air strike against the German battleship Tirpitz on 3 April 1944. After another refit she joined the British Eastern Fleet enroute to the Far East. In July 1944, she led a strike against Palembang with HMS Illustrious, then on 25th July she led a strike against the Andaman Islands with HMS Indomitable. In October 1944, she was assigned to the British Pacific Fleet, serving in some of the final hard-fought operations at the end of the war.
