    Price: £34.82

    Brand: Airfix

Description: The Tiger I was a German heavy tank of World War II deployed from 1942 in Africa and Europe, usually in independent heavy tank battalions. Its final designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E often shortened to Tiger. The Tiger I gave the Wehrmacht its first armoured fighting vehicle that mounted the 8.8 cm Kw K 36 gun. 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944. It carried a crew of 5 (driver, radio operator, gunner, commander and loader), and was powered by a water-cooled V-12 engine, taking to speeds up to 28 m.p. h. (45 k.m. p.h.), and alonng with its feared main weapon carried two 7.92mm MG-34 machine guns, used in close combat situations. While the Tiger I has been called an outstanding design for its time, it was arguably over-engineered using expensive materials and labour-intensive production methods. The Tiger was prone to certain types of track failures and breakdowns, and was limited in range by its high fuel consumption. It was expensive to maintain, but generally mechanically reliable. Also being difficult to transport, and vulnerable to immobilisation when mud, ice, and snow froze between its overlapping and interleaved Schachtellaufwerk-pattern road wheels, often jamming them solid, made the effectiveness of this fearsome weapon less potent. This was a problem on the Eastern Front in the muddy spring season and during periods of extreme cold. The tank was given its nickname Tiger by Ferdinand Porsche, and the Roman numeral was added after the later Tiger II entered production. The initial designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausfuehrung H ('Panzer VI version H', abbreviated Pz Kpfw VI Ausf. H) where 'H' denoted Henschel as the designer/manufacturer. It was classified with ordnance inventory designation Sd Kfz 182. The tank was later re-designated as Pz Kpfw VI Ausf. E in March 1943, with ordnance inventory designation Sd Kfz 181. Mid-production Tiger I's have the second design turret with the smaller cupola but retain the rubber-rimmed roadwheels. These Airfix model kits will require paints and glue to complete. Description: Trumpeter 1/72 Scale Tiger I Tank Mid Model Kit Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E, often shortened to Tiger. It was an answer to the unexpectedly formidable Soviet armour encountered in the initial months of the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union, particularly the T-34 and the KV-1. The Tiger I is the first tank mounting the 88 mm gun, in its initial armoured fighting vehicle-dedicated version, which in its Flak version had previously demonstrated its effectiveness against both air and ground targets. During the course of the war, the Tiger I saw combat on all German battlefronts. It was usually deployed in independent tank battalions, which proved to be quite formidable. While the Tiger I was feared by many of its opponents, it was over-engineered, used expensive and labour intensive materials and production methods, and was time-consuming to produce. • Airfix 1/35 Scale Tiger-1 "Early Version - Operation Citadel" Model Kit

    Price: £36.49

    Brand: Airfix

Description: Following their disastrous defeat at Stalingrad during the winter of 1942-43, the German armed forces launched a major offensive in the East known as Operation Citadel on July 4th, 1943. The climax of Operation Citadel, the Battle of Kursk, involved as many as 6,000 tanks, 4,000 aircraft and 2 million fighting men and is remembered as the greatest tank battle in history. The peak of the battle was the massive armour engagement at Prochorovka, which began on July 12th. Prochorovka is one of the best-known of the many battles on the Eastern Front during World War II. Tiger heavy tanks with deadly 88mm cannons, lumbered forward while hundreds of nimble Soviet T-34 medium tanks raced into the midst of the SS armour and threw the Germans into confusion. The Soviets closed with the Panzers, negating the Tigers' 88mm guns, outmanouvered the German armour and knocked out hundreds of German tanks. The Soviet tank force's audacious tactics resulted in a disastrous defeat for the Germans, and the disorganised SS divisions withdrew, leaving 400 destroyed tanks behind, including between 70 and 100 Tigers and many Panthers. Those losses smashed the SS divisions' fighting power, and as a result Hoth's Fourth Panzer Army had no chance to achieve even a partial victory in the south of the Soviet Union. After receiving the news of the Allied invasion of Sicily, as well as reports of impending Soviet attacks on the Mius River and at Izyum, Hitler decided to cancel Operation Citadel. From then on the German forces were on the back-foot and the war had now turned against them. These Airfix model kits will require paints and glue to complete. Price: £44.99

    Brand: Rye Field Models

Description: Rye Field Model 1/35 Scale Sd. Kfz. 181 Pz. kpfw. VI Ausf. E Tiger I Late Model Kit The Pz. Kpfw VI (Sd. Kfz. 181) Tiger is a German heavy tank from World War II, one of the most famous combat vehicles of that time. On April 20, 1942, the prototype of the new Tiger tank, under the designation VK 4501 (H), underwent field trials in the presence of Adolf Hitler and was put into mass production shortly after. The first production versions were designated Pz. Kpfw VI Ausf. H1 (later Ausf. E). In the course of production, in the years 1942-1945, the tank was systematically modified. The Pz. Kpfw VI tank, although it did not have such a contoured front hull as the T-34 or Pantera, was a heavily armored vehicle (frontal armor up to 120mm), armed with a very effective Kw K 36 L /56 88mm gun, which earned the reputation of being the most effective tank of the Second World War. It was a vehicle much better than the Allied M4 or Churchill and the Soviet T-34/76. On the other hand, the Pz. Kpfw VI had some disadvantages - first of all, it was extremely time-consuming to produce and had a very complicated suspension. In the later period of the war, the quality of the Tiger's armor also deteriorated, which resulted from the lack of access to the molybdenum deposits by the German economy. Despite these drawbacks, the Tiger on the battlefields proved to be a very effective weapon. Description: Tamiya German King Tiger Production Turret Ready to assemble precision model kit 1:35 Scale Military Miniature Series 164 Highly Accurate Static Display Model with a Lifelike Commander Figure Authentic 88mm Gun with loading breech Detailed Flexible Tracks About the German King Tiger Production Turret In order to counter the increasing threat of Russian tanks during the latter part of the Second World War, Germany began development of a new heavy tank in February 1943. Officially designated the Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II, but better known as the King Tiger, it featured thick armor and a powerful main gun. Henschel and Porsche, who had prior experiences in the manufacturing of heavy tanks, came up with rival prototypes incorporating different turret configurations. After trials, the Henschel design was adopted for production. The King Tiger carried the Type 43 L71, 88mm high velocity main gun which was capable of penetrating 170mm thick armor plate at a distance of 1000 meters. Auxiliary armament included two 7.92mm machine guns mounted on the front hull section and on the turret. The extremely thick armor on the turret front measured 185mm and 88mm on the side panels. Power for this massive tank was supplied by a Maybach HL230 P30 V-12 cylinder, liquid cooled engine, producing 700 horsepower. The King Tiger went into mass production at the Henschel factory beginning August 1944, following the delivery of the last Tiger I tanks. Although the tank possessed advanced technology and sophistication, only 430 units incorporating the Henschel turret came off the factory line, and less than 500 total were ever available for combat.
